Science Friday with Ira Flatow

Science FridayI decided that the new year was a good time to look at the list of web sites and podcasts that I follow regularly, and prune that list to the ones that are the best of the best. I haven’t been very disciplined about that pruning, but I did identify one podcast that’s on my “must listen” list: Science Friday, a radio show you can hear today on NPR, with host Ira Flatow.

Science Friday often has animal-related stories, including their annual Christmas Bird Count show during the end of December. Visit the archive to see recent stories or subscribe via iTunes.

They also post resources for teachers, which are full of interesting links related to stories.

I’m happy to see that they’ve started a weblog, which is fantastic for those of us wanting more than just a Friday fix. If you follow weblogs using RSS, I found I was able to subscribe to the Science Friday weblog feed using this url: http://www.sciencefriday.com/blog/index.php?/feeds/ei_181.rdf. (Don’t know about RSS? It’s a way to subscribe to web sites so you can see updates without visiting each individual site….the site publishes a “feed”, and you use a web or software tool to collect and read the feeds. How to: Get to grips with RSS in three minutes is a good place to start. Don’t forget to subscribe to Critter Geek: http://crittergeek.com/?feed=rss2!)
