Horse Dentistry

I never realized that horses have their own dentists until my friends over at Spotty Horse News posted this interesting article about a visit from the equine dentist.

If going to the dentist isn’t bad enough, think about holding your 1200-pound pet through the process of getting their own teeth worked on!

  1. As a follow up, I had a great comment from Doc’s owner. She said, and I noticed, that his weight is looking better since he had the work on his teeth done.

When you think about the difference it can make for you to have your mouth feeling good enough to eat whatever you want, a horse dentist doesn’t seem that far out of the realm of normal things. :-)

  2. I just started looking a blogs. Have heard a lot about them, but there is JUST SO MUCH out there!
I am a certified horse dentist. It’s amazing how many horse owners don’t realize the importance of dentistry (and I am not talking about a bucket and two floats to file some sharp points). It is amazing how horses improve in coat condition, weight, performance, attitude.
I wouldn’t hire a dentist or vet, though, that makes you hold up the horse’s head. THAT is a pain. I use a stand that is made just for that!
    Thanks for your blog

  3. That’s so cool. I’m quite familiar with the dentistry field, but didn’t know the dentists exist that work solely on horses. I think I can get a post out if this. Thanks!

  4. No way! Really? There are specialists for horses? I’ve been working as a dentist for quite a while already and this is actually the first time I knew about this. Saying I’m awed would be an understatement.
